So you wanna be a vegan or know more about it. Simple basics make it easy and healthy!

Vegan Advice...

  • FORTIFY!  Get your cereal, orange juice and "milk" fortified. This can include soy milk, rice milk, hemp milk, almond milk, hazelnut milk, etc.
  • PROTEIN!  Replace meat with a with a good source of protein, such as beans, legumes, tofu, tempeh, or seitan.  Protein combining is unnecessary as long as you eat a varied diet and get enough calories.
  • VARIETY!  Vary the kinds of foods you are eating to get a balance of what you need.
  • VITAMINS!  Remember to get B-12 and iron.  Check out our list of great sources to find out how.
  • FRESHNESS!  Choose fresh over canned. Canned foods have lots of preservatives and strip food of nutrition! Frozen is less bad, though fresh is best.
  • ORGANIC!  Choose organic whenever possible. In the United States, PLU codes that begin with 9 are organic and codes that begin with 4 are not.
